Plumbing advice

My geyser is leaking or has burst: what now?

If water is spreading from a geyser or appearing through a ceiling, the immediate priority is a safe phone conversation about the damage and attendance.

Describe what you can actually see

Say where the water is emerging and whether it is still flowing. Explain whether the geyser is in a roof space or elsewhere, without going into an unsafe area to check. A ceiling leak is a symptom; it does not establish which component failed.

Keep away from electrical risks

Avoid wet electrical equipment and do not dismantle the geyser or reach into a wet installation. If you know where the property’s water shut-off is and it is safely accessible, describe it to Bobby and ask what action is appropriate.

Have a short call checklist ready

Give your suburb, the time the leak began, the affected rooms, safe access arrangements and a contact number. Mention an insurer and any instructions already received. A photo can support the conversation if it can be taken safely.

Ask what happens after assessment

Discuss whether repair or replacement is appropriate, what the quotation covers and whether further damage needs separate attention. Confirm insurer arrangements rather than assuming a claim is accepted. For cost questions, use the geyser-cost guide as a list of quotation questions.
