Pituitary disorders
Pituitary disorders appear in the existing endocrine scope. Previous blood tests, imaging and the history behind a referral can help frame the consultation.
The pituitary’s role
The pituitary helps regulate several other endocrine glands. A pituitary disorder may therefore affect more than one hormone system. Too little hormone production is described as hypopituitarism; the exact pattern and cause need assessment.
Bring the sequence of events
Explain whether a blood result, imaging finding or symptom prompted the referral. Ask which reports and images to bring, with dates where available. If previous treatment or surgery is relevant, tell the practice when arranging the visit.
Ask how the findings connect
A specialist conversation can clarify which hormones are being assessed and which other clinicians are involved. Questions about investigations, interpretation and follow-up should be answered for your circumstances. This page does not interpret a scan or identify a pituitary lesion.
